The Graduate Center’s Office of Career Planning will be hosting an event on Tuesday that may be of interest to the Futures Initiative community.

Date/Time
Date(s) – 11/11/2014
4:00 PM – 6:00 PM

Location
Room 9205/4, CUNY Graduate Center

Dr. Georgette F. Bennett, President of the Tanenbaum Center for Interreligious Understanding and a PhD in sociology, will talk about how she’s used the skills gained from her PhD to make effective change in the world.  She’ll discuss:

  • How she was able to move from one setting to another (academe, government, corporate, non-profit);
  • How the skills and experience gained from doing a PhD helped her to do this;
  • What made her decide to found her own non-profit organization and the type of strategic thinking that went into doing so.

Finally, she’ll offer advice to graduate students who are facing a changing higher education landscape and looking for career options beyond the tenure track—particularly those who are concerned with social justice and hoping to find work where they can affect real change.
