The University of Washington Bothell (UWB) seeks a dynamic educator who bridges theories and practices of design studies, with expertise in one or more of the following areas: design thinking, interaction design, media experience, digital media arts practice, digital graphics and animation. One position is being recruited at the rank of Assistant Professor (0116). This would be a full-time, multi-year appointment with a 9-month service period. The successful candidate will provide collaborative leadership for the major in Interactive Media Design (IMD), have a faculty appointment in the School of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences (IAS) or the School of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), and join a campus that values interdisciplinarity, diversity, and engaged forms of research and teaching. Record of teaching excellence, evidence of commitment to working with diverse student and community populations, and PhD (or foreign equivalent) are required at time of appointment. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Interactive Media Design, Studio Director Search, 2014-15
The University of Washington Bothell (UWB) seeks a dynamic educator and professional to guide students in applying theories and practices of interactive media design in an immersive studio environment. Industry experience as a senior contributor or leader of end-user software development and/or related digital media projects is preferred. The Studio Director is a hybrid teaching/administrative position that serves as a cornerstone of the campus’s IMD major. The successful candidate will have a faculty appointment in the School of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences (IAS) or the School of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), and will join a campus that values interdisciplinarity, diversity, and engaged forms of research and teaching. This is a multi-year appointment with a 9-month service period.
IMD’s cohort-based, 2-year program consists of paired studio and practicum classes in five of six quarters, in addition to electives. The Studio Director is responsible for teaching the sequence of practicum courses in which students design, prototype, and pilot interactive media products (http://www.bothell.washington.edu/mediadesign/course-information/studio-elements). The role requires the management of a diverse portfolio of student projects and coordination with internal and external stakeholders, including faculty members, students, and staff across campus, regional organizations and businesses, and UW Bothell’s Digital Future Lab (http://www.bothell.washington.edu/digitalfuture). We are especially interested in applicants who can connect students to the broader technology community in the region.
Specific requirements for this role include:
• Passion for working with undergraduate and graduate students who have broad backgrounds and limited experience by leading, championing, managing, instructing, critiquing, mentoring, advising, and supporting them, as needed, in mastering the concepts and skills needed to succeed in their career aspirations.
• Record of teaching success in studio environments and evidence of success in working with diverse student and community populations.
• Familiarity with current production and design methodologies and tools, facility with all aspects of interactive media development, and software development and/or related digital media production background (professional expertise and experience leading cross-discipline teams preferred).
• Masters or PhD degree or significant industry experience is required at time of appointment.
