Getting the most out of CBOX: Where and how to post content

CBOX offers many options on where to post content—but sometimes having so many possibilities can be overwhelming. With that in mind, I’ve outlined a few places you might want to post, with some details about each. I’ll discuss posting to the main blog, the graduate class’s group/forum, your undergraduate class’s group/forum, and your undergraduate class’s site.

The main blog: http://futures.gc.cuny.edu/blog/

  • Public; no log-in required to view or comment (though comments are moderated)
  • Best for content that is of general interest to the everyone in the course plus the general public—course recaps, reflections on higher ed, etc.
  • To post here, log in, hover over New in the top black menu bar, then click Post

Our class’s group (Forum): http://futures.gc.cuny.edu/groups/mapping-the-futures-grad-students/

  • Private; only members of the group can view content
  • Best for content that is sensitive in any way; that discusses undergraduate work; or that is not of interest beyond our class
  • Also good for lively discussions with many replies
  • To post, log in, click Groups, then My Groups, then find our group. You will be taken to the Forum. Click New Topic to start a new thread.

Your undergraduate class’s group (Forum)
[location varies; example: http://futures.gc.cuny.edu/groups/hunter-intro-to-theatre/]

  • Readership can be private or public depending on the settings you choose—but only group members can post (talk to Katina if you want help with the settings)
  • Best for content that is only of interest to your class
  • Also good for lively discussions with many replies
  • To post, log in, click Groups, then My Groups, then find your group. You will be taken to the Forum. Click New Topic to start a new thread.

Your undergraduate class’s site
[location varies; example: http://futures.gc.cuny.edu/hunterintrototheatre/]

  • Readership can be private or public depending on the settings you choose. You also control authorship and commenting privileges. (Talk to Katina if you want help with the settings)
  • Great for course-related work, student reflections, readings. Think of this as your class’s primary home—post here first, then cross-post the best material to the main blog, http://futures.gc.cuny.edu/blog/)
  • To post here, log in, hover over My Sites in the top black menu bar, hover over your class’s site, then click New Post

With all these options, it can be hard to recall where you saw a post. To see all the latest activity, click Activity in the black menu bar (http://futures.gc.cuny.edu/activity/). Use the dropdown menu (“Show…”) to filter the type of content that is displayed in the results.
