The Master of Arts in Liberal Studies, Fashion Studies and The Center for the Study of Women & Society invite you to the lecture by Christina Moon (Parsons, The New School for Design): New York/Los Angeles. Fashion Capitals and Fast Fashion

This talk explores the emergence of new kinds of fashion workers in the New York and Los Angeles fashion industries within the last two decades. Curiously, the cultural labor of immigrants and their children have played a central role in the creation of new forms of creative practice and cultural labor in the making of New York fashion and the rise of fast-fashion in LA. What is the relationship between these two ‘fashion’ capitals, design labor, and the emergence of new material forms of clothing? How does it change our understanding of ephemera, invisibility, and ubiquity in the design and making of our everyday clothing?
